September is coming, children will go to school soon, but fashionistas, bloggers and journalists are ready for another important event: the beginning of Fashion Weeks. They are held twice a year: first time in September, presenting trends for the next spring-summer (SS) season, and in February, where they will show us what it will be fashionable to wear next fall and winter (FW).

Well, you would ask me: do fashion houses and couturiers really work day and night only to show us a few dresses 2 times a year? In fact, there are much more fashion shows. But the most important Fashion Weeks are considered in four cities – New York, London, Paris and Milan.

What happens on Fashion Week?

The main shows are dedicated to the pret-a-porter collections of leading brands, and in each country they are different. For example, flying to Milan for visiting the Fashion Week Show, you can expect to see new looks from Gucci, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, while going to Paris you can enjoy unforgettable shows from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga.

As I said, the shows take place twice a year: in the beginning of autumn 2019, designers showcase us the apparels from the spring-summer collection 2020. And then they take a half-year break to do the next:

• Create images and choose accessories for clothes;
• Make the factories sew the whole collection;
• Have time to pick up an order and deliver clothes with accessories to all boutiques by the beginning of the fashion season.

Such a tradition – six months for each collection, was originated with the boom of Fashion Weeks in the 1970s. Today, however, things are going much faster, so a 6-month break between shows is no longer a necessity, but a tribute to traditions.

Genesis of the Fashion Weeks 

If I say that private fashion shows have already existed 200 and 300 years ago, you won’t be surprised, right? It was the privilege of noble gentlemen and ladies to watch them: in closed salons, tailors showed their latest models of dresses and suits, using for this “live fashion models”. In 1943, a woman named Eleanor Lambert has run the first-ever fashion show for journalists, later she created the U.S. Fashion Designers Council.

What are pret-a-porter shows?

From French, this term translates as “ready to wear”, that literally means clothes and accessories for everyday outfit. Almost 90% of the podium shows we see present us the looks that we can buy later in outlets and boutiques. Also, most designers allow you to order your favorite model right during the show. And others adhere to the classical scheme and make you wait six months, before the start of the season. In general, watching the pret-a-porter show, we understand what will be wearing next season.

What are Haute Couture shows?

“High fashion” or “haute couture” – these are shows in which designers demonstrate a flight of fantasy and their skills. The shows are held twice a year in Paris (this year it was held from June 30 to July 4, we are waiting for the next one in winter).

The fact is that the things we see on haute-couture weeks are likely to never appear in boutiques. They are even, to put it mildly, difficultly fitting into everyday outfits.

If we see such a “masterpiece” and we still don’t understand why Christian Dior allowed “this” to be born, let us remember: this is not to be worn. So “haute couture” is, rather, an art for enjoying it, an eye-pleasure thing.

There are also thematic fashion weeks. For example:

• Swim Week Miami Beach – beach fashion and bikini show this year was held in July;

• Menswear – special collections for men as a part of January and June fashion shows;

• Bridal – collections of wedding dresses and accessories, etc.

At Fashion Week, journalists, photographers, and bloggers are invited. Previously, it was customary to put singers, actors, directors and other “recognizable” people in the front row, for more prestige. So it was while television prevailed over the Internet in popularity. Today, more and more you can see Instagram stars and leading fashion bloggers in the front row. Well, Kim Kardashian has already become a symbol of that shows. 

Someday I will find a space on my schedule to attend fashion shows in Paris, London, New York and Milan. Then I will post exclusive photos, perhaps will make a report on the acquired accessories. Первого сентября дети идут в школу, а модники, блоггеры и журналисты готовятся к другому важному событию: началу Недель мод. Их проводят дважды в год: в сентябре, представляя тренды на весну-лето будущего года, и в феврале, где нам покажут, что будет модно надевать следующей осенью и зимой. 

Вот вы спросите, дорогие читатели: неужели модные дома и кутюрье работают денно и нощно только ради того, чтобы показать несколько нарядов 2 раза в год? На самом деле, существует гораздо больше модных шоу и показов. Но ключевыми считаются Недели моды в четырех городах – Нью-Йорке, Лондоне, Париже и Милане.

Что происходит на Неделе моды?

Главные показы демонстрируют коллекции pret-a-porter ведущих брендов, причем в каждой стране они свои. Например, путешествуя на миланскую Неделю моды, можно ожидать новинки от Gucci, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, тогда как в Париж едут за незабываемыми шоу от Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga. 

Как я сказала, показы происходят дважды в год: в начале осени 2019 дизайнеры демонстрируют вещи весенне-летней коллекции 2020. А затем берут полугодовой перерыв, чтобы:

• Создать образы и подобрать аксессуары к одежде;
• Отшить коллекцию;
• Успеть забрать заказ и доставить одежду с аксессуарами во все бутики к началу модного сезона.

Такая традиция – полгода на коллекцию, зародилась вместе с бумом Fashion Weeks в 70х годах. Сегодня, правда, дело идет намного быстрее, так что 6 месяцев перерыва между показами уже не необходимость, а дань традициям. 

История появления Недели моды

Если я скажу, что приватные показы существовали и 200 и 300 лет назад, Вы не удивитесь, верно? Это было привилегией знатных господ и дам: в закрытых салонах портные показывали свои новейшие модели платьев и костюмов, используя для этого «манекенщиц». В 1943 году женщина по имени Элеонор Ламберт основала первый в истории показ мод для журналистов, а позже создала Совет модных дизайнеров США. 

Что такое показы pret-a-porter?

С французского этот термин переводится как «готовы для ношения», то есть ready-to-wear или вещи для повседневного гардероба. Практически 90% показов с подиумов, которые мы видим, идут затем на витрины и в бутики. Также большинство дизайнеров позволяет заказывать понравившиеся модели прямо во время показа. А другие придерживаются классической схемы и выжидают полгода до начала сезона. В общем, глядя показ pret-a-porter, мы понимаем, что будет модно в следующем сезоне. 

Что такое показы Haute Couture 

«Высокая мода» или «от кутюр» – это показы, в которых дизайнеры демонстрируют полет фантазии и свое мастерство. Показы проходят дважды в год в Париже (в этом году прошел с 30 июня по 4 июля, следующий ждем зимой). 

Дело в том, что эти вещи, которые мы видим на haute-couture, скорее всего, никогда не появятся в бутиках. Их даже, мягко говоря, сложно носить в повседневной жизни.

Если мы видим вот такой «шедевр» и не понимаем, почему Christian Dior позволили «этому» родиться на свет, то знайте: это не для ношения. Так что «от кутюр» – это, скорее, искусство для наслаждения глаз. 

А еще бывают тематические недели моды. Например: 

• Swim Week Miami Beach – в июле прошел показ пляжной моды и бикини;
• Menswear – специальные коллекции для мужчин в рамках январских и июньских модных показов;
• Bridal – коллекции свадебных платьев и аксессуаров и т.д.

На Недели моды приглашаются журналисты, фотографы, блоггеры. Раньше было принято «сажать» в первые ряды певцов, актеров, режиссеров и других «узнаваемых» людей, для престижа. Так было пока телевидение брало верх над интернетом по популярности. Сегодня все чаще в первых рядах можно увидеть звезд Instagram и ведущих модных блогов. Ну и Ким Кардашьян, куда же без нее… 

Когда-нибудь я найду окошко в своем расписании, чтобы посетить показы мод в Париже, Лондоне, Нью-Йорке и Милане. Тогда я размещу эксклюзивные фото, возможно, похвастаюсь приобретенными аксессуарами.
